Warriors sign elite three-point shooter
Javan Johnson will be signed by the Golden State Warriors, according to Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report and NBA on TNT.
As part of the 2023 NBA Draft, the Golden State Warriors selected Brandin Podziemski (19th) and Trayce Jackson-Davis (57th).
Now that the Draft is over, unselected players can sign with teams as free agents. Bleacher Report's Chris Haynes reports that the Warriors have signed Javan Johnson.
The 24-year-old averaged 14.2 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per contest last year while shooting 42.6% from the field and 41.2% from the three-point line. Johnson played five college basketball seasons (two at Troy, one at Iowa State, and two at DePaul). During the season, he attempted 6.0 three-pointers and made 2.5 of them.
After finishing the season as sixth seed in the Western Conference, the Warriors defeated the Sacramento Kings in the NBA Playoffs (in seven games). They lost to LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers in the second round (in six games). They have made it to the NBA Finals six times and won four NBA Championships in the last nine seasons.
While the Warriors had a disappointing 2022-23 season, they still have future Hall of Famers Steph Curry and Klay Thompson on their roster, which means they will likely contend for the NBA Championship in 2024.
